1 Hawks Press Release on Sat Feb 01, 2014 6:53 pm

Rawken Hawks GM Aaron Pointer has announced that going into season 19 the entire coaching staff will be returning including long time manager Ken Harrelson.  Coming off a 93 win season Pointer felt no need to make changes.
"The team performed well so we wanted to give them another chance this season", said Pointer who played parts of 3 seasons with the Astros before moving into coaching and management.
"Things are shaping up for the good guys", said Harrelson.  He will have back hitting coach Andre Dawson, pitching coach Ralph Branca and bullpen coach Clay Carroll.  The team also announced PA announcer and 7th inning stretch entertainer Tony Hawk would be back as well.
As always there will be roster turn over and that started with the keepers.  "We wanted to be more pitching focused this season", said Pointer, who kept new acquisition SP Jarrod Parker over 3rd baseman Aramis Ramirez.
"The guy didn't do the job", said Harrelson candidly of Ramirez.  "A .229 average and 17 homers is not what we expected.  Heck, the new guy we got hit 19 homers in a platoon!", Harrelson said of new 3rd baseman Eric Chavez who will also platoon with the Hawks as Johnny Mac will hit against lefties.  Also returning to the pitching staff are ace R A Dickey who set team records for innings, shutouts (four) and complete games (eight) and Josh Johnson who provided quality innings and the second most wins on the team.
The emphasis on pitching continued in the first round of the draft when the team selected Chris Tillman.  "Chris was limited down in Mexico last season", said pitching coach Branca.  "But we feel like he can give us over 30 starts and compete with Johnson for the #2 spot".
Also coming over from the Psychos is 2nd round pick Alan Craig.  Returning  keeper Adam Jones, the team'a centerfielder, is looking forward to playing alongside Craig.  "The guy hit 29 homers last season and kills lefties all day", said Jones who hit 20 homers himself with close to 100 runs and RBIs.  The middle infield was upgraded offensively from Alcidss Escobar and Darwin Barney (a combined 3 homers) to SS Marco Scutaro (.300 splits on both sides) and 2nd baseman Neil Walker who had 17 homers last season.
The team is returning four important bats at the urging of hitting coach Dawson.  "He put his ego aside last season and hit in a platoon and he lead the team in homers!", Dawson said of RF Andre Ethier.  Ethier's homer total last season of 24 will be challenged this season by both Craig and new catcher Wilin Rosario (25 homers last season) but his production against right hand pitchers is key.  Ethier will platoon with another returnee Travis Snider who hit 12 homers in less than 200 plate appearances.  "I love LaHair", Dawson.said of the returning DH who hit 22 homers in a platoon.  The fourth returning bat is catcher David Ross who hit 13 homers in limited playing time and provides quality defence behind the dish.
The bullpen is not as deep as last season but still features a Henke quality closer in Sergio Romo and a group that is strong against lefty batters.
The final words on the upcoming season goes to always colourful manager Ken Harrelson, "we're gonna stomp some chiquitas, down some margueritas and kick some sushi ass ", he said of division rivals The Bananas, The Psychos and OMG It's Ichiro.

Ken Harrelson is kind of an ignorant hick, but the Hawk fans love him!
